California Polytechnic State University

Sallie Harlan
Reference Librarian
California Polytechnic State University

Judy Swanson
Multimedia Specialist
California Polytechnic State University

Sariya Talip Clay has been Reference and GIS Librarian at the Kennedy Library, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo since September 1995. Her responsibilities include reference, bibliographic instruction and developing GIS services in the library. Prior to this, she worked at the University of Arizona library where she was in charge of the library skills program. The CSU information competence project has provided her the opportunity to build upon those experiences as well as to accept new challenges brought upon by Web-based instruction.

Sallie Harlan has been Reference Librarian at the Kennedy Library, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo since January 1995. Her responsibilities include reference, bibliographic instruction and working on the Information Competence Project. Prior to becoming a librarian in December 1994, Sallie worked as a library assistant and secondary school teacher, among other things.

Judy Swanson has worked in the Cal Poly library for the past 22 years. Most of that time has been spent as a cataloger, except for a 5 year stint in Circulation. With the growing importance of multimedia, the library administration made the decision to have a fulltime library position dedicated to the creation of web-based and other forms of multimedia presentations. Judy has filled that position for the last 18 months. She finds the work she does to be frustrating at times, but always exciting.
