How to Effectively Locate Federal Government Information on the Web

For the past 2 1/2 years Patricia Cruse has worked at UC San Diego in the Social Sciences & Humanities Library as a Government Information Librarian. UC San Diego has merged public services for government information together with social sciences and humanities. As a consequence, she has been involved with helping non-government information specialists better navigate the world of government information -- both electronic and paper.

She has also been involved in the development and maintenance of GPO Gate, a WWW interface to a suite of databases located at the Government Printing Office. This award winning service allows users to easily retrieve core government information from the federal government.

Sherry DeDecker is U. S. Documents Librarian at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is also collection manager for Communication and Social Sciences interdisciplinary materials. In addition to collection development, her duties include reference and instruction. She has created and maintains web pages for Federal government information and Communication.
